What is 74 Club?

Well, it isn't where ancient Tablers end up after reaching the ripe old age of 74. The name actually comes from the last two digits of our Table number.

74 Club is a grouping of Round Tables from different countries whose number also ends in 74. Mostly these Tables are in Europe, but we do have an honorary member Table in South Africa. The intention is to exchange ideas and foster understanding between our different cultures - and to try the local beer of course.

Every year a one of the countries takes its turn at hosting a long weekend (Ascension weekend) for visitors and their partners from all the member Tables. This is a truly memorable event; a 3-day party where the visitors are hosted in the homes of local Round Table members.

Many Tablers and their families have made firm international friendships through 74 Club, and some regularly visit each other outside the 74 Club forum. The event seems to become more popular each year; about 120 people were involved this year, including 6 from Wotton.

Old Table

After a while, years of attending wild 74 Club Euromeetings begins to take its toll. Some of the old guys just can't hack it any more!

If you have attended a Euromeeting in the past and still want to keep in touch with old friends - but without the hectic programme - then the Old Tabler's 74 Club weekend might be just what you're looking for.

DID YOU KNOW?

The inaugural meeting of 74 Club took place on 5th October 1974.

74 Club was the brainchild of a Wotton-under-Edge member, Mike Stoor. The organisation was instigated by members of Wotton-under-Edge, who travelled the length and breadth of Europe to seek out potential members. The inaugural meeting took place in the Lord Daresbury Hotel in Warrington on 5th October 1974.

David Ivel Rees - Chairman of Wotton at the time - proposed the formation of 74 Club, and it was seconded by Jozef van den Berghe of Ninove. The rest, as they say, is history.
