Bonfire & Firework
Spectacular Washout!

Saturday 1st November 2008
What can we say? The weather really let us down this year - it
rained, rained rained. Our lowest attendance for a very long time,
and our first event to make a loss in many years. All the organised
displays in the area suffered a similar fate. The following weekend
was no better for those who decided to postpone.
A
big "thank you" to those brave souls who ventured out
in the atrocious weather. They were rewarded with a superb children's
display featuring monster battleships.
The adult's display didn't fare so well, with some fireworks failing
to fire having got wet. The display company kindly refunded some
of the money, which did go some way to offset the losses.
Thanks are also due to the various organisations that helped us
(Ladies Circle, 41 Club, Tangent, Lions, Woodend Scouts, KLB, Bill
Guy's rides, ...) and the bands who provided live music throughout.
On the plus side, there were no queues for food (though the same
can't be said of the queues for shelter!)
Fortunately we can survive this sort of eventuality, and have the
commitment not to be put off by a little setback! We'll be back
again in 2009, bigger and better! Take a look at the pictures from
some of the previous years to get an idea of what to expect.
Hope to see you there!
