2002 - 2003 (Primmo's Year)
Avon Raceway
This
event is always a winner! This time the real winner was Derek, closely
followed by Darren and Phil. Followed by cod & chips at Harry
Ramsdens. [March 2003]
Whisky Tasting
Thanks
to Phil Sylvester for a very enjoyable Whisky Tasting evening in
February. At least I think it was good - it all seems a bit hazy
now...
Prague
Eleven
of us made our way to Prague for a long weekend in November.
More pictures and exposures here.
Ozleworth Park
Late
August; and a few of us were given the rare privilege of an informal
tour of the grounds of Ozleworth Park by the Head Gardener. The
gardens of this secluded country house are pristine and well worth
a visit on one of the few charity open days each year, should you
get the chance. Anyone with an interest in plants or gardening will
find something of inspiration.
Thanks
to Colin for the tour - I'll let you know whether my Peaches do
better next year! [They did - Ed.]
P.S. Attendance at this event was disappointing. Colin gave up
his evening to take us round; more support would have been appreciated!!

The grounds of Ozleworth Park also house this
Norman Church, which is worth a visit in its own right.
SARA Rescue Station
In August we were given an eye-opening introduction to the work
carried out by the Severn Area Rescue Association SARA,
including a skim down the river in their new Rigid Inflatable Boat,
the SARA-2 stationed at Sharpness.
SARA
is the largest independent lifeboat service in the UK, second only
to the RNLI, with 8 operational boats and approximately 150 personnel.
The members, all volunteers, put in a tremendous amount of time
and enthusiasm into the organisation, to the benefit of all river
users. If this appeals to your sense of adventure, SARA are currently
looking for more volunteers!
We
made a donation on the night, enough for SARA to repair their broken
hoist. Thanks to Shane Clark and the rest of the team at Sharpness
for a fascinating and enjoyable evening.

Tyndale Monument
A summer evening walk through Westridge Woods to North Nibley and
the top of the Tyndale Monument. After all the effort climbing the
steps, [?] we needed some sustainance. I know - back to Swan for
a few beers.

The Lakes
Sandwiches
at the top of Blen Cathra. Fantastic view; much better than the
day before on Skiddaw, when visibility in the rain was about 20
metres.
Even Rob Marrow made it this time, having spent the
previous day in bed nursing a swollen head! Mind you, having seen
the nice young lady who brought him breakfast in bed, maybe he wasn't
so badly off.
Posh
meal at the Rheged centre - shame we were mis-informed by DP about
the dress-code - boots and kagoules? Yeah, right! But the kind people
from Radio Cumbria let us stay to their disco, which kept us entertained
late into the evening.
